FAQs

Do I need a partner?

For Beginner’s and Self-Tie classes, as well as “Open Space” timings, you do not need a partner, however all other classes and workshops you will need to bring a bottom to learn with.

What should I wear?

As long as your genitals are covered, you can wear pretty much anything you want.

It is our recommendation that you wear yoga/fitness attire, and avoid loose, baggy clothing for ease of tying.

Please avoid wearing metal or sharp accessories (i.e. studs/heels/rings) that could damage the mats.

Does my body type matter?

NO! Shibari is for everyone!

You don’t need to have any special skills to bottom, you just need to like to be tied up. There is always a way to enjoy rope!

When can I advance in Levels?

Before our instructors graduate you to the next level, you must demonstrate your knowledge and skill from the previous level, and meet the requirements for that level.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

What if I have practiced Shibari and have a baseline skillset?

Amazing! We are so excited for you to join us.
Anyone who would like to bi-pass a level can come to a practice and one of our instructors will evaluate your tying.

Please email to ensure we have an instructor on site for the evaluation.

Do I need my own rope?

For the Beginner’s class, we will have rope that students can borrow, but there are limited quantities available and it will have to be returned after class.

If you would like to ensure you have rope to practice with at home, or for open-space practice, we can discuss your rope order at any time.

Can I purchase rope?

Absolutely! We have both prepared kits and custom rope available for purchase online with an in-studio pick up.

To ensure you have your rope order for class, please allow up to 2 weeks for processing of custom rope orders.

Does gender matter?

Rope does not discriminate! Surrender offers an inclusive environment for all over the age of 18.

Do I have to register, or can I drop in?

You MUST register for all events, even FREE events!!

Surrender values the safety and privacy of its community members, so we have adopted a strict entrance policy for the studio. The doors will only be open during designated scheduled times, and those who have not registered will not be permitted entrance.

Can I just come to watch?

Yes! The best time to come and watch is during an open space, and performance events.

Unfortunately there is no space to watch during classes due to limited spots for students.
